Our Junior Rowing Program (high school age participants)
has a Varsity and a Novice (first time rowers) component.
We are a competitive team training five days a week in preparation for
races locally and around the country. We are
always looking for new members to join our team so come down to the lake and
join one of the fastest growing sports in the country! Please contact Head Coach

Pre-Season Junior Learn to Row-480-350-8069-This
session will give athletes a chance to learn some of the basics of rowing before
you join the team. Take the Learn to Row class and find out if rowing is for
you. Float test will be held at 9am on 8/29 at the Kiwanis Recreation Center, then
the next class session will meet the lake on 8/31. Fee:

Tempe Town Lake Junior Rowing Team-480-350-8069-Join
the junior team and develop your rowing skills in a team sport environment. The
first year focuses on learning basic rowing technique and rowing fitness and
participants will be eligible for our local race in October. The varsity rowers
will fine tune their skills and prepare for races around the country. Open
enrollment from September-October 1st. Fee: $524

Adult Rowing
Rowers 18 years and older are eligible for classes in
three skill levels.
Beginners: Learn to Row and Learn to Scull.
Individuals are introduced to the basics of rowing and sculling. Learn to Row is
a pre-requisite for Learn to Scull.
Experienced: Open Rowing and Sculling focuses on
rowing for fitness and technical growth with an option of racing at local and
regional regattas.
Competitive Racing: Competitive Rowing is for those
who have had one or more years of rowing experience and some racing experience.
This group focuses on competitive rowing and competing in local, regional and
national regattas.
No Class October 10th for the Hot Head
Regatta, November 22nd for Ironman, and November 26th, 27th
for the Thanksgiving Holiday
Learn to Row-480-350-8069-Designed exclusively for
first time rowers, this course will introduce the basics of rowing. Safety, boat
handling, proper rowing technique and initial fitness development are stressed.
Participants must be able to pass the 10 minute float test* and have a basic
level of fitness. The first class meets at a local pool for the float test and
safety video presentation. **Attendance of the first three classes is
mandatory.**.

Learn to Scull-This class will teach the student the
skills required to row in a boat (called a single scull) on their own.
It is designed for people with no sculling experience. Prerequisite:
Learn to Row.

Adult Open Rowing and Sculling: This session brings
all experienced rowers together. This course is taught by a staff of coaches
for the multiple skill and fitness levels. Sweep rowers and scullers will be
rowing along side each other with an opportunity to try either discipline.
This class is designed for recreational rowers and competitive athletes.
Open Rowing and Sculling allows open enrollment, call 480-350-8069 for info.
Prerequisite: LTR for Sweep Rowing; Learn to Scull for Scullers, plus Instructor
approval.

Competitive Rowing Program- Designed with the
serious competitive athlete in mind. Rowers are taught racing techniques,
strategy and boat speed development. This class will be building toward a
competitive national racing schedule. Prerequisite: One year plus rowing
experience, with some racing experience. Fee: $280.

Erg Fitness-Coach Kelly Vanek returns with upbeat
music to achieve a total body workout. Interactive sessions will help
participants with their technique as well as get in shape. While there will be
mixed experience levels in the class, the workouts will be tailored to the
individual. Prerequisite: Learn To Row. Fee:$60 Instructor:

Tempe Town Lake Rowing Club -This program is
designed for advanced rowers to be able to row (singles and doubles only) on
Town Lake during non-program hours. Once joining the club, rowers will be able
to check out equipment during Club Rowing times and train on their own.
Coordinator permission and a successful re-entry test on file will be
prerequisites. Club Fee: $50/year and rowing fee $15/month. Call 480-350-8069 to

Rowing Expo-Come down to Tempe Town Lake and give
rowing a try! At the Rowing Expo participants can try rowing for free. This one
day event gives you the chance to learn the basics of rowing and see if the
sport is for you. Participants will be introduced to the rowing machine, rowing
barge, and have the opportunity to get into a rowing shell. For more information

Moon Light Kayak-Paddle in the moonlight! Enjoy the
moon and stars around Tempe Town Lake. No experience necessary. Bring clothes
you don’t mind getting wet, a towel, and dry clothes and prepare to howl at the
moon. Kayaks, equipment and PFDs will be provided. Must be 18 years or older to
participate. Fee: $30 per person. Please register in advance at

Moonlight Paddle on Halloween - Join the ghosts and
goblins on Tempe Town Lake for a moonlight paddle to die for! Come down to the
lake and enjoy the full moon, if you dare. No experience necessary and costumes

New Years Eve Moonlight Paddle- Ring in the new year
on Tempe Town Lake. Enjoy seeing the moon rise and finish your evening by
watching the fireworks at the Tempe Block Party. Fee includes one general
admission ticket to the Tempe Block Party. Kayaks, equipment and PFDs will be
provided. No experience necessary. Fee: $35

What to Bring and Wear for a Moonlight

not mind getting wet.
Some sort of water shoes or sneakers the participants do not
mind getting wet. Sandals are permissible as long as they are
not open back, flip-flop type sandals.
Hats or Visors
Loose
fitting comfortable t-shirt. Depending on the participants sun
tolerance they may want to wear an SPF coated top shirt, or a
long sleeve t-shirt.
If a participant wants to wear long pants, it is permissible,
however they should not be cotton or denim, they should be
Polyester or Lycra.
Not Allowed:
Jeans
of any kind, including Jean shorts
Long pants that are non-athletic type pants; jeans, cotton or
corduroy are not allowed.
Hiking boots or dress shoes
Paddling Fitness-Program
will include stretching, warm up and fitness exercises which will be specific to
paddling. There will be coaching, a focus on your paddle stroke and on-the-water
training in kayaks which help with your next river or lake kayaking adventure.
Bring your own boat or use one from our fleet. PFD’s are mandatory for this
class and if you don’t have one, we will supply them.
