Welcome to Tempe
Town Lake Rowing!
Rowing was a means of survival long before it was a
sport. The Greeks, Phoenicians, and Vikings rowed as a means of
transportation. Rowing was the first organized collegiate sport complete
with its own governing body in the United States.
Rowing is divided into "sweep" and "sculling" disciplines.
Sweep rowers each use a single oar, while sculling rowers use two smaller
oars. Boats capable of seating 2, 4, and 8 individuals are used for sweep
racing. Single, double, and four man shells are used with sculling racing.
The Tempe Town Lake Rowing Program provides both disciplines
each season. Every session we have numerous courses to choose from. Sign
up and be apart of the new tradition of rowing in the desert. Happy Rowing.
