Auditions for the 2008-2009 Tempe Symphony
Orchestra season will be at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 6 at the Tempe Center
for the Arts (Star Suite - Performers' Lounge),
700 W. Rio Salado
Parkway. Enter
through the Stage Door on the west side of the building.
Auditions are welcomed for all
instrumental positions. Usually there are more string openings than
in the other sections. If no position is available at the time of
the audition, applicants’ names will be placed on a waiting list for
future reference.
No members of the orchestra receive
payment for playing in the group. Seating order is based partially
on length of service in the orchestra. All seating decisions are
made by the Music Director at the time of acceptance into the
organization.
Musicians wishing to audition must choose
and supply their own music. Please pick selections that show playing
skills (both melodic and technical) to best advantage. The orchestra
performs traditional and contemporary literature of high technical
difficulty. Prospective members should be able to display the level
of competence necessary to perform well-known orchestral music
written by the world’s most famous composers (see
past repertoire).
The members of the Tempe Symphony
Orchestra rehearse in the Tempe Center for the Arts (Lakeside), most
Mondays from 7:30-9:30 p.m., September to May. There are four Monday
night concerts each season, with a dress rehearsal from 4-6 p.m. on
the Sunday preceding each concert. Attendance is strongly urged for
all rehearsals.
