Moderator Catherine Hammond opens the 10th season of Poetry in April. Free

Cárdenas’ book “Boomerang” is forthcoming from Bilingual Review Press, and her chapbook, “From the Tongues of Brick and Stone,” was published by Momotombo Press in 2005. She also co-edited the anthology “Between the Heart and the Land: Latina Poets in the Midwest” (MARCH/Abrazo Press, 2001). Her poems have appeared in a range of anthologies and literary journal. 

Pompa
earned degrees from the University of Chicago and Indiana University, where he served as a poetry editor for Indiana Review. His chapbook, "Pepper Spray," was published by Momotombo Press in 2006. In 2008, his first full-length collection, "My Kill Adore Him," was selected by Martin Espada as winner of the Andres Montoya Poetry Prize.

 

The stark, monochromatic staging of this concert is the perfect backdrop for the lush movement and emotional power that arises from pure dance. CONDER/dance demonstrates its compelling choreographic style in a concert that features the work of Ashleigh Leite and Carley Conder.

The Tempe Youth Wind Symphony is an honor group of young musicians from Tempe middle schools and mentors from area high schools. The group is coordinated by William J. Richardson and conducted by Douglas Akey.

 “The Lady of the Lotus Lake” is based on a love poem by the artist Rudaera and features a combination of live-on-stage painting and music performance by the artist. This is an introduction to Rudaera’s concept of art and music for a live performance.

Kausen is the grandson of animator Chuck Jones and current director of the board of the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity. He will share personal stories and information about the mission of the Chuck Jones Foundation. Bring your own mug for a free cup of coffee.

 

This evening of music, written for the concert band, will include selections that are recognized as significant works. Pieces by Shostakovich, Reed, Persichetti, and Nelson will be featured.

 

 

García is a bilingual, bicultural poet who has México, the United States and the land in between in her work. She has an MFA degree from Vermont College in writing and currently resides in Arizona. Garcia has a chapbook, “This Stone Will Speak,” from Pudding House Press. Free

The ASU School of Music presents the ASU Wind Ensemble and Concert Jazz Ensemble in “Fusion,” featuring works for jazz ensemble and wind ensemble using fusing the styles of the jazz, classical and pop/rock.

 

 

 

 

Contestants compete in ballet, baton, character, cheerleading, folkloric, jazz, vocal, clogging, lyrical/modern, musical theatre, hip-hop, acro-gym, pointe, open, pom pon, song & dance and tap in an effort to reach the World Cup Finals.
