Student Government Day

 

Student Government is an annual event sponsored by the Mayor's Youth Advisory Commission (MYAC)  that involves 46 Tempe high school students.

During the morning participants shadow the Mayor, City Council members, and City department heads, managers and administrators. Students gain insight into a variety of professions in city government and how our city’s infrastructure operates.

During the afternoon students participate in a mock City Council meeting where they address an actual issue that was faced by Tempe’s City Council. Participants analyze the issue and present sound arguments to support their position on the topic. The mock council meeting gives participants the opportunity to understand and experience first-hand the importance and effectiveness of community involvement.
