Parks and Recreation employs 126 permanent employees and 461 part-time employees to; provide quality recreation services to the community and develop and maintain Tempe’s parks golf courses and preserves.  The department’s staff is responsible for 47 parks, 3 sports complexes, 2 golf courses, 5 aquatics facilities, 3 recreation centers, Mill Avenue and arterial street and right-of-way landscape maintenance.

 My first employment with Tempe was as a part-time employee with Ken McDonald Golf Course in 1977.  I am a graduate of Arizona State University with an undergraduate degree in Parks and Recreation and a graduate degree in Public Administration.   During my 29 years with Tempe, I have managed therapeutic recreation programs, environmental education classes and activities, youth and adult sports, aquatics, special events, and implemented the Kid Zone program in the Kyrene School District.  In 2005 I was appointed Parks and Recreation Manager with the creation of the new department. 

As manager, my role is to ensure the highest quality facilities, programs and services are provided to the citizens of Tempe through creative and innovative management that honors our history of community.  Our many skilled employees are our most valuable resource.  Our department strives to reflect the diversity of our community while maintaining open communication with our many employees and the citizens of Tempe.
