Guadalupe Man Arrested on Suspicion of Motor Vehicle Theft

On Wednesday October 14, 2009 at approximately 7:00 PM, Oscar Montano Abundez, 23, of Guadalupe was placed under arrest on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and two vehicle burglaries.

On October 14, 2009 at approximately 5:40 PM, the Tempe Police Department received a call of a stolen vehicle that had just occurred from the parking lot of the Fiddlesticks, located at 1155 W Elliot Rd, Tempe.

The vehicle that was stolen had a modified exhaust system and had a loud distinct sound.  The caller informed Tempe Police Dispatch that he could hear that his vehicle was still in the area.

Tempe Police Officers swarmed to the area of where the vehicle was stolen and saturated the area in an attempt to locate the stolen vehicle.  Responding officers located the vehicle in the parking lot of 1245 W Elliot Rd.

Officers made contact with a male near the vehicle who was identified as Oscar Montano Abundez.  Abundez made statements to officers implicating himself in the stolen vehicle investigation.

Investigation revealed that Abundez was in possession of items that had been reported stolen in recently reported car burglaries as well as burglary tools.

Abundez was transported to Tempe City Jail where he was booked and charged with one count of Theft of Means of Transportation (A class three felony), one count of Possession of Burglary Tools (A class six felony), two counts of Burglary from a vehicle (A class four felony), One count of possession of stolen property (A class one misdemeanor).

Our “priority zero response plan” where officers swarm to the area of in-progress crimes increases the chances of apprehending criminals.  While direct cause and effect is difficult to attribute, we can say that auto thefts have decreased 54% over the past two years.  This investigation and subsequent arrest is only one example of the quality police services the men and women of the Tempe Police Department are providing our community.
