Tempe awards arts grants to 29 non-profit organizations

This year Tempe’s Arts and Culture Division has awarded grants to more organizations than ever before. 29 non-profits will receive funding to provide quality arts programming to the city. More than half of those projects will directly support youth and families through the arts. Projects range from school residency programs to musical performances to art festivals and camps.

The grants were awarded to applicants in two categories:

Youth & Family Arts Grants: Quality arts projects with a primary mission of supporting family and youth-centered arts programming in Tempe. The following organizations received funding in this category:

Phoenix Conservatory of Music

AZ Wolftrap/Scottsdale Arts

Phoenix Symphony

Broadmor PTA

Tempe Historical Society

Cultural Coalition

Tempe Impact Education Foundation

Free Arts

Tetra String Quartet

Musica Nova

United Sound

Musician Enrichment Foundation

Unlimited Potential

Phoenix Boys Choir



Artistic Excellence Grants: Demonstrates high artistic quality as well as innovation in both programming and artist selection. The following organizations received funding in this category:

Hayden's Ferry Chamber Music

Bridge Initiative

Lakeshore Music

Carolyn Eynon Singers

Mac & Company


Movement Source


Stray Cat Theatre

Desert Overture

Tempe Community Chorus

Grand Canyon

Tempe Winds






Tempe City Council approved $185,000 in funding for these 29 organizations in July 2017. The competitive review process was conducted by two independent and objective community review panels. Each panel was comprised of representatives from the Tempe Arts and Culture Commission, Tempe residents, educators, business owners, arts educators and artists.
