Broadway Road to close west of Mill Avenue next week for railroad crossing improvements
Starting Monday, Broadway Road will be closed west of Mill Avenue through Aug. 4 to allow railroad track replacement as part of safety improvements at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing. The City of Tempe, in partnership with UPRR, Arizona Department of Transportation and Federal Railroad Administration, is making the crossing upgrades.
The road will be fully closed between Dateland Drive and Farmer Avenue, with soft closures at Mill Avenue and at Hardy Drive to allow access to local businesses and neighborhoods. Through traffic will be detoured to University Drive and Southern Avenue, and Bus Route 45 will be detoured.
Beginning Aug. 5, Broadway Road will be restricted to one lane in each direction between Mill and Farmer avenues from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily through late August to complete the safety upgrades.
We know traffic restrictions and delays can be frustrating. Tempe works to minimize the impacts of construction and infrastructure maintenance by concentrating work during summer months when traffic is lighter. We want to keep you informed about what’s coming up and which streets are restricted, so you can plan ahead and choose the best route.
