Tempe to boost bulk trash and green waste collection starting in January

Post Date:07/28/2014 1:35 PM

Since making significant changes to the city’s bulk trash and green waste collection program last July, Tempe has been listening to residents and hearing their concerns. Residents said they want more opportunities for bulk trash collection; Tempe listened. Residents said they value the city’s efforts to collect and compost green organics; again, Tempe listened.

In June, the Tempe City Council supported modifications to the city’s bulk trash and green organics collection program to include more mixed waste (bulk trash) collections while retaining a significant green-organics composting component. Beginning in January, Tempe will provide six mixed waste collections per year (up from two during the last year), along with three collections for green waste (vegetation) that will be turned into nutrient-rich compost.

Until then, the city will continue collecting every other month, with two collections dedicated to green organics (vegetation) and one for mixed waste (bulk trash and green organics) between July and December.
