Storytime at the Tempe Public Library is a fun and active event for kids.

Dressed in their favorite jammies, superhero costumes or pink tutus, babies and preschoolers, accompanied by their more conservatively dressed parents, rush to the Storytime Castle to enjoy time with each other. They sing, dance, read and listen to books while doing complimentary activities that encourage early learning and literacy skills. On average, more than 100 children and their parents attend each story time the library offers.

This Wednesday, the staff of Tempe 11, Tempe's cable access channel, will record portions of both the 10 a.m. Baby Storytime and the 11 a.m. Preschool Storytime. These story times may be included as part of an upcoming video being created by the City of Tempe to inform people about the Tempe Public Library and the services it offers. The video is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2014 and will air on Tempe 11. It may also be seen on the Library's website and be available on YouTube when it is finished.

The Tempe Public Library would like to invite you and your family to be part of the video. Bring your babies and preschool-aged children to Storytime this Wednesday, March 26 at either 10 a.m. or 11 a.m. There is no guarantee that any child will be featured in the video and no one will be paid for an appearance in the video.

Those who attend story time but wish not to be part of the video may still do so. Library staff will respectfully request those who don’t wish to be in the filming of the video to enjoy story time in a part of the castle that will not be in the camera’s view. The choice of whether or not to be included in the video will not impact the active and enjoyable experience of the story time. Both story times will remain equally good for everyone.

Storytimes take place each week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 10 and 11 a.m. with special afternoon storytimes on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. Evening Storytime happens on the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. Saturday Storytime for kids of every age starts at 10:30 a.m. on the last Saturday of the month. Get more details at The story time schedule will change in May due to the beginning of the Summer Reading Program.
