Tempe Historical Society Lunch Talks

"Buffalo Soldiers of the American Southwest"

Dr. Beverly Poellnitz

In 1866 the Buffalo Soldiers were established by Congress as the first peacetime all black US Army regiment. Their main charge was to protect settlers as they moved west and to support the westward expansion by building the infrastructure needed for new settlements to flourish. Admission is free, with coffee and light refreshments provided.

The Tempe Historical Society's lunchtime lecture series takes place the second Wednesdays of January, February and March at 11:30 a.m. in the museum's Community Room. For more information about programs at the museum, visit www.Tempe.gov/MuseumEvents.
